Black History Begins with His-Story

 

SUB-TOPICS

The Official Sub-topics, chosen as such because of their wealth of knowledge and their student-friendly format, are part of the "Blacks in the Bible" book /website,  http://blacksinthebible.org/.

 

Contestants are permitted also to use reference material from the original KJV (the only Bible which is not copyright).   Other acceptable works are: 1)The Black Biblical Heritage, John L. Johnson; Beyond Roots: 2) In Search of Blacks in the Bible, William D. McKissic, Sr.;  and 3)100 Amazing Facts on the African Presence in the Bible.

 

All reference material must be indicated and appropriately referenced. 

 

CONTEST PERIOD:

 

Contest period begins at 9:00 am Central Time (CT) on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 and ends at 9 pm CT on Wednesday, December 15, 2020 (the "Contest Period").

 

ELIGIBILITY:

Contest is open worldwide to grade 9-12 students of all nations.

 

STEPS TO ENTER:

 

Complete and Submit Entry Form.

 

Submit an original essay of 850 to 1000 words.

 

Email essay (during the Contest Period as stated above) to: 2021blackhis.story@kcmiw.org. Limit one (1) entry per person. Essay must be submitted by 9 pm CT on Wednesday, December 15, 2020.

 

JUDGING

 

All entries will be judged by a panel selected by KCMIW.

 

A point system will be used based upon the following criteria: originality (40 percent), use of language (25 percent), appropriateness to contest topic/sub-topic, (25 percent) grammar; punctuation (10 percent).

 

Incomplete and/or inaccurate entries and entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification. Decisions of judges are final.

 

AWARDS/WINNER NOTIFICATION

 

Three winners will be chosen.  The 1st place winner will receive $500 cash award; 2nd place winner will receive $300 cash award; 3rd place winner will receive $200 cash award.  All winners will receive an award plaque.

 

Winners will be notified by email the 2nd Saturday of February 2021.

 

PUBLICITY

 

Winners and winning essays will be published on the KCMIW website; online social media and other broadcast platforms; including but not limited to blogs, e-zines, e-blasts and various other news media.
